Article Review

Martindale, T & Wiley, D 2005, Using weblogs in scholarship and teaching, TechTrends, vol. 49, no. 2, March / April 2005, pp. 55-61.

This article examines the web as an important resource for the teaching and learning environment and focuses on the use of Weblogs or 'blogs' as a learning tool. Initially, the definitions of a 'blog' and how one is created and accessed is discussed. However it is the use of the 'blog' within the educational context that is examined in full detail. This includes professional development through 'blogging', using RSS aggregators for filtering information, utilizing the 'blog' as a knowledge base and communication tool for both teaching staff and students, and the ease of use of a Weblog. Highly recommended for those interested in promoting online learning and considering alternative web tools within the educational environment.
