The Australian Government will undertake targeted consultations with key business and sector stakeholders involved in training around Australia. The paper sets the parameters for discussion and details of the consultation process. Meetings will take place during February and March 2005 to inform the establishment of new arrangements from July 2005, when ANTA responsibilities transfer to DEST. Following the consultation process, a model for the new national training system will be finalised, and the Australian Government will begin a separate process with the States to finalise a new Commonwealth-State Training Funding Agreement.

Research Report

Clayton, B. & Fisher, T. & Hughes, E., NCVER, Sustaining the skill base of technical and further education institutes: TAFE managers' perspectives (2005)http://www.ncver.edu.au/research/proj/nr3021.pdf [2005, September 15].

The demographic changes in Australia's labour market present challenges for technical and further education (TAFE) institutes. Within TAFE institutes, in which the teaching workforce is older than the overall national labour force, the imminent departure of many teachers endangers its prime asset - its skill and knowledge base. This report examines the approaches managers and leaders in 16 TAFE institutes have undertaken to sustain, develop and renew their workforce and build their organisation's knowledge. It finds that TAFE managers now recognise that maintaining and developing their organisation's skill base is imperative, but that finding approaches to sustain TAFE in the longer term requires more attention.

Conference

Harnessing the potential of e-learning
October 25 –27, 2005, Sydney
http://www.flexiblelearning.net.au/newsandevents/Events/events_content/NSW_harness_pot.htm

This event will impart a comprehensive understanding of how to decide which technology options are right for your organisation, how to choose the most cost-effective technology, how to enhance the learning experience for users by customising content and design, how to successfully manage change to guarantee user buy-in, how to maximise the potential by incorporating e-learning with other training methodologies, how to identify future directions and innovations in e-learning.
